I bought a shirt/ dress/ shoes at Common Era, but now that I look at it again, I'm not sure I
want it. Can I return it?

We have an "All Sales Final Policy," which means that we will not return your money for a purchased item. However, if you have your original receipt and the clothing has not been worn nor the tags removed you may exchange the item for another item in the store for up to 10 days after the date of the original purchase. After 10 days or without the receipt there is nothing we can do. If, however, you received the item as a gift, you should have also received a "Gift Receipt" which allows you to exchange the item for up to 30 days.

But what if I don't see anything I like?

If you return the item but don't see anything else you'd like that day, we will issue a store credit which never expires. Therefore, you'll have plenty of time to check back periodically and find something you love.

I saw something at the store that I loved, only I don't have the money right now. Do you guys put stuff on hold or do any sort of layaway?

Sorry. We order such small quantities of our unique items that it doesn't make sense for us to keep that merchandise off the floor.

My daughter loves your store and her birthday is coming up, but I would have no idea what to get her. Do you have Gift Certificates?

Absolutely! We have beautiful Gift Certificates that can be made out to anyone in any amount and are good to use for up to one year after the purchase date. That way if you give a $100 certificate and she only spends $50, she will have time to come back and use the rest whenever she likes. If you do choose to buy something specific for her, be sure to tell us that it's a gift so we can write that on the receipt, giving her 30 days (instead of 10) to exchange the item.

Could I buy something on-line and just have you ship it?

Sorry. Right now our inventory changes so quickly that we don't sell anything on-line. As for shipping, we don't do that either.

Can I pay with a check?

No. Like a lot of businesses, we found them to be more hassle than they're worth. However, we do accept all major credit cards (even American Express!) and of course, cash.

Didn't you guys used to have wigs and other weird stuff?

Every year when October rolls around, we bring in all kinds of fun stuff- from wigs to platform boots, satin gloves and nurses outfits, Dracula teeth, Elvis glasses and almost anything else you'd need to make a scene at that fabulous Halloween party. After October, we go back to our normal adorable clothing.

I saw some flyers in your window for a concert. Can I put flyers up for my event?

Yes we do put up flyers for various events in our window space, but we ask that you give the flyers to our employees who will place them in the window according to available space and expiration date. We don't put up posters involving politics or controversial issues, only announcements of the entertainment variety (concerts/ art shows etc.)

I make really cool jewelry/ purses/ tee shirts. Can I sell them on consignment in your store?

Good question. Unfortunately, the answer is probably no. This is because in addition to providing such incredible clothing, we also have incredible prices- in fact a big part of our popularity and reputation depends on these consistently low prices. In general, local artists have much higher production costs than our vendors do, making the prices they would have to charge out of line with the rest of our store. That said, if you are familiar with our style and are absolutely convinced that your product is a perfect match for our store, drop us an email with photos and if we are interested we'll be sure to get back to you.

I am involved with this really great non-profit. Would Common Era consider donating time, money or gift certificates to help out with our event?

We LOVE to support local events and causes! As an independent business, we are always eager to help out within our community. Although we don't donate money, we have been known to donate gift certificates or the use of our clothing for fashion shows. Whether we participate in your event depends on what other projects we are involved in at the time, so if you'd like to run an idea by us, please stop by and talk to either Deb (Owner), Amy (Boulder Manager) or Angeline (Denver Manager) in person. You could also send an email to info@mycommonera.com, though we would always prefer to meet you.

P.S.- A NOTE ABOUT SHOPLIFTING!!!

Although no one really asked, we thought we'd take a moment to talk about shoplifting. To some people it may come as a surprise that it's even an issue, but we assure you that it is. For independent businesses to compete with chain stores is a struggle each and everyday. When we have people swipe a tank top, or jeans or a pair of earrings, it makes it that much harder to stay in business and keep our prices low. That's why we keep an eye on our store, that's why our employees are dedicated to protecting Common Era, and that's why we prosecute any and all shoplifters. You can be sure that any stories you've heard about us chasing thieves down Pearl Street are nothing but true. We love our store, and if you do too, please don't steal from us.
